Tokyo studio Yamazaki Kentaro Design Workshop recently designed an unusual kindergarten classroom with play spaces that span seven different levels. Young children often have trouble sitting still, meaning it is important that they have a safe place to run and play. This classroom features a unique layout that combines education and play time in a creative way.
The Hakusui Nursery School in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture, is a kindergarten that spans multiple different levels. The school itself is located on a gentle slope and features a stepped design that rises with the topography. There are seven levels in total and each is designed to represent a separate, yet connected play space. This is achieved with open spaces separated by slender metal balustrades. The idea behind the unique design is to recreate the layout of a large house in which children of all ages can interact with one another.
