Diageo is making a move to open carbon-distilleries with its new distillery in Lebanon, Kentucky. The first-of-its-kind carbon-neutral distillery from Diageo is set to be one of the largest of in North America, setting a precedent for reduced carbon emissions and action against climate change. The new Diageo distillery is set to be powered by 100% renewable electricity and will be capable of producing 10 million proof gallons per year. The Diageo Lebanon Distillery will be responsible for making products for a variety of bourbon and American whiskey brands.
Ultimately, Diageo is working towards net-zero carbon emissions and sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Some of the notable features of the site include its energy-efficient facility design, water-saving solutions and zero residual waste going to landfill.
