The NACONEK's Super Porridge is being launched by Ingredion Kenya as part of a public-private partnership that's focused on helping 2.4-million malnourished school children.
The product is crafted with locally sourced maize, soybeans, sorghum and sweet potato with stevia to add a touch of sweetness. The drink is fortified with 15 micronutrients, and processed and packed inside a Tetra Brik Aseptic 250ml pack that comes with a straw for easy enjoyment anywhere. The product will also support the local community with 12,000 small-scale famers contracted to help supply the raw materials needed for manufacturing.
Director, Africa and Middle East at Ingredion Kennedy Ouma spoke on the NACONEK's Super Porridge saying, "This is a very emotionally fulfilling project to be involved in, as we are bringing our purpose to life by making life better for underprivileged children by improving their nutrition and getting them back to school. Current launch covers 50,000 children this year, rising to 100,000 in 2024 and then upscaled to 2.4 million by 2025 as the funding increases.”
