This Mexican retreat, located in Comala—a small town near Colima, was designed to "[organically emerge] from the ground." The project was headed by Colima-based firm Di Frenna Arquitectos. The architects strategically chose the materials they worked with so that the contemporary dwelling is intimately intertwined with the natural surroundings of the area. The Mexican retreat combines stone and rammed earth, as well as some traditional craft practices through the carrizo weaves and the stucco application. The home measures at 400 square meters and is very well integrated with the existing vegetation in the area. Most materials for the project were locally sourced—the rammed earth, in particular. Di Frenna Arquitectos described the interior of the space, which is subtly minimalist, has evoking "moments of quiet wonder."
