Mexican design studio MCxA Group designed the Casa Santa Maria del Oro which is a lakeside home located in Mexico defined by its circular holes to create light wells and courtyards. These are intended to create space for the trees that exist at the location.
The house rests on a steep slope that falls away from the water so that it is partially integrated with the earth and this is covered by a green roof. The design team leaders Mauricio Ceballos and Francisco Vázquez explain the design process, "Circular shapes are subtracted from the volume to honour their presence, allowing these giants to intertwine with the dwelling. This design ethic is a tribute to the environment and the local community, where construction harmonises with nature."
