Scotch whiskey maker Lochlea Distillery has unveiled its new annual range of single malts, which is said to be inspired by the changing of the seasons at the Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The new collection's headlining expression is a 48% ABV Sowing Edition whiskey, which intends to embody the spirit of the spring when the Lochlea Distillery first begins sowing the seeds for the year's barley. In addition, the 48% ABV Sowing Edition whiskey is aged in first-fill Bourbon barrels and is non-chill-filtered. As a result, the expression delivers a sophisticated flavor profile consisting of notes such as vanilla, green apple, and cooked biscuits.
“It gets a wee sweeter with Bonbon flavors and grassy flavors from the cereal, it smells a bit like straw and then leads to cooked biscuits and gentle aromatics. There’s a nice bit of spice coming through from the cask," said John Campbell, Lochlea production director and master blender, describing the flavor of the new whiskey.
