Kevin best is a photographer originally from New Zealand, who currently lives in Sydney, Australia and is deeply inspired by the Dutch Golden Age of painting.
An interesting aspect of his photographer, or indeed of photographic reinterpretations of classical painting in general, is that while painters of the style seek to portray their subjects as faithfully as possible, photography does so with comparably little effort. This is not to say that photographers have it easy though.
Best spent months painstakingly planning and recreating each set depicted in the series. Whereas the artists that inspire him spent most of their time behind the canvass, Kevin Best spent most of his time on the other side of the lens, making sure each object was perfectly composed before the shutter closed.
