The Isbjerget Apartment Complex is a Chilly Waterfront Addition
Meghan Young — March 28, 2013 — Art & Design
The Isbjerget apartment complex may be located just off of Aarhus Bay in Denmark, but thankfully the waters are too shallow for big rig ships to be fooled into a Titanic moment. Shaped like a large mass of icebergs, the waterfront housing is therefore more beautiful to behold that frightful.
A collaborative design effort between four architectural firms: JDS, CEBRA, SeARCH and Louis Paillard, the Isbjerget apartment complex took five years to complete. It is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the new docklands area known as Bynære Havnearealer. An exciting new housing development, it is one of many projects that is helping to turn the former container port into an upcoming area that will be home to 7,000 inhabitants and provide 12,000 jobs in the process.
