Attracting over 3,000 fabulous fish from all over the world, the International Goldfish Championship in China is the first beauty pageant of its kind. A large warehouse located in the city of Fuzhou served as the venue for the event with thousands of goldfish on display in what look like over-sized soup bowls filled with water.
Judges stroll up and down the aisles and rigorously examine the aquatic applicants to determine which fish has the most flawless features. In all, there are five categories of scrutiny: breed, body shape, swimming gesture, color and overall impression. Although color is definitely one of the more important attributes, sometimes particularly rare traits, such as abnormally large size, can garner the judges favor -- as was the case with a whopping 3.9 pound goldfish that was considered by many to be a gorgeous specimen.
