'Eighty Eight #2' is an inflatable sculpture by Nils Volker that makes a wall of garbage bags look as if they are breathing. The installation was created for the 'Coup de Sac' exhibition in Switzerland, a continuation of Volker's previous moving sculptures.
The inflatable sculpture is made up of garbage bags, cooling fans and electronics specifically designed to create this effect.
The huge garbage bag sculpture scales the walls of the Musée de Design et d’Arts Appliqués Contemporains, taking on the appearance of a wave crashing in the ocean. Just like water, the movements of the bags have a calming effect. The bags make a crinkly sound when they deflate and inflate, comparable to the sounds of the ocean.
