Britsh artist Steve Messam unveiled four eye-catching inflatable sculptures during Clerkenwell Design Week in London's trendy Clerkenwell neighborhood. The creations create playful juxtapositions with their surrounding architectural environment and effectively accent the public spaces. Steve Messam's goal for this project was to "reimagine the architecture" of the locations and add something new. The contrast between the urban built environment—hard and stoic—and the delicate fabric is key here. The artist states that "There's also a conversation going on between the solidity of the building and the fragility of what is essentially fabric and air."
One of the inflatable sculptures is called 'Gateway' and sits in the archway of St John's Gate. Another installation, this time red and with slightly rounded protrusions envelopes a phonebooth in the city.
