The concept of gender bending has always been popular in mainstream anime, but for it to be injected into a Westernized cartoon is something most people in North America find controversial.
The Hub cable network has recently included in their kids shows line-up ‘SheZow,’ a cartoon show about a 12 year-old boy who transforms into a female crime fighter. The boy character named Guy, transforms into his female counter-part when he says “You go, girl!”
The gender bending kids show does hold some concepts about transsexuality, but none of which that are outwardly represented in the series. The show doesn’t depict the any of the realities that most transgendered individuals go through. The concept of introducing children to gender diversification is a facet of gender roles that children need to understand.
