Edition Office Designs the Fenwick St Project in Australia
Amy Duong — September 1, 2023 — Art & Design
Local architecture studio Edition Office created the Fenwick St project, which is found along the wooden site just over the Yara or Burrarung River. It is an apartment block that overlooks the valley defined by its exposed concrete materials throughout the exterior. Additionally, it is also detailed with perforated copper screens for a dynamic and contrasting look. It rests at the corners of the triangular base where the blocks are separated bt two paths that connect and create views over the axes.
Aaron Roberts, the director of Edition Office states, "We saw the site as an extension of the greater public domain that reaches out and down towards the Birrarung River and the valley beyond. The large mass of a singular joined building in this instance would not be sympathetic to the massing, scale and language of the surrounding buildings. Breaking the project down into pavilions allowed the project to read as a series of dwelling more in line with this scale."
