In partnership with TerraCycle, Procter & Gamble created the Fairy Ocean Plastic bottle, which is made from 100% recycled plastic and ocean plastic. The new bottle is set to be introduced to consumers in 2018, with 320,000 Fairy Ocean Plastic bottles produced, making it the largest production of recyclable dish soap bottles of its kind.
The plastic that goes into the making of the eco dishwashing liquid bottles comes from TerraCycle's Beach Plastic Cleanup Program, which aims to keep beaches and oceans free from plastics.
According to a report from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, "there could be more plastics than fish in the ocean by 2050." The design of this bottle serves as a precedent for the ways other CPG brands can turn ocean plastic into a resource and at the same time, prevent the creation of more plastic waste.
