Michael Hemsworth — July 3, 2019 — Eco
Plastic waste has become a huge concern on a global scale, so PepsiCo has announced a new eco water packaging shift that will see it tradition several product lines over to more sustainable alternatives.
The new packaging changes will include Lifewtr being packaged in 100% rPET, Aquafina in aluminum cans at US foodservice outlets and the elimination of plastic from Bubly sparkling water containers. These changes are expected by the company to eliminate over 8,000 metric tons of virgin plastic and about 11,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
Vice President Water Portfolio for PepsiCo Stacy Taffet spoke on the new eco water packaging saying, "We are really excited to evolve our packaging across PepsiCo’s water portfolio to make a positive impact. We created Lifewtr to be an inspirational and purpose-driven brand, and we’re expanding that vision by using recycled packaging to deliver our premium water."
