Espacio 18 Arquitectura Designs the Casa del Alma
Amy Duong — April 14, 2023 — Art & Design
Mexican design studio Espacio 18 Arquitectura designs the new Casa del Alma, which is located along a hillside in Oaxaca, Mexico. The home is made up of two concrete structures that sit beside an ecological reserve. This creates an environment that is created for "peace, meeting, contemplation, and introspection," noted by Espacio 18. The house is in the terrain and the concrete structure cantilevers from the sloped base.
The studio explains the inspiration behind the design, stating that "This project was inspired by the masters of light, such as [Gian Lorenzo] Bernini or current masters such as Alberto Campo Baeza. The different uses of light in the space allow the project to evolve during the day, during the year in the different seasons. It's as if it were a rock carved to create a sculpture."
