The first Akutar collection is launching in April 2022 and it will share 15,000 unique, 3D avatars launching on the Ethereum blockchain. Aku, the cryptonative NFT character created by artist Micah Johnson, is featured in the collection, along with fashion, sports and streetwear collaborators like Billionaire Boys Club, PUMA, Upscale Vandal and more.
Each of the collaborators will create a handcrafted one-of-one Akutar design within the 15,000 3D avatar collection, and holders will not just get bragging rights to digital assets but also exclusive access to culture-defining experiences, products, and collaborations.
Aku began as an NFT series based on Johnson's experience of hearing a young boy ask if astronauts could be Black. Since then, Aku has been optioned for TV and film projects, and as Johnson says, "Akutars are the next step in Aku's journey and evolving Akuverse."
