Paris' mayor Anne Hidalgo is running for reelection and is extending her work to create a post-car city with a 15-minute city concept—where people will be able to get where they need in 15 minutes by bike. A 15-minute neighborhood is not easy to come by, as it is defined by places like parks, cafes, stores, homes and schools that can be reached within minutes by walking or biking.
Based on this concept, cities of the future have the potential to be redesigned so that people can access the basic social functions of a city right from within their own community. As well as helping to address climate change, these car-free communities have the potential to enhance quality of life.
