11.29 Studio Uses Rotating Screens Around Painting Space
Amy Duong — September 30, 2023 — Art & Design
Architecture firm 11.29 Studio highlights the use of rotating bamboo screens that allow a painting studio to open up to the landscape that surrounds the location. It is found in Thailand along a pond within an agricultural space in Rayong. The Furnish Studio is made for a local oil painter and he was looking for an open space that is well ventilation and would be able to function as both a workspace and a display area.
Founder of the studio Kantinan Na Nakorn speaks about the project to Dezeen, stating "Thailand's hot and humid climate, along with the owner's preference not to use air conditioning in the primary work area, necessitated a strategy to maximize natural ventilation. Working within a limited budget required us to seek ways to minimize construction costs. A square floor plan emerged as the most economical option since it reduces the number of pillars and minimizes the need for walls."
