Civil Liberties Rejoiced with Pope Francis' Gay Rights Stance
Sarah St.Jules — July 29, 2013 — Pop Culture
Earlier today, a huge step towards human rights was displayed when Pope Francis' gay rights stance shocked and wowed the world. Historically, the Catholic church has had a negative opinion on homosexuals, and in the Pope's comment, "Who am I to judge?" a religion may have just become closer to being more accepting.
In light of these comments, it is important to remember the journey the LGBT community has taken to try and receive acceptance, and all the different committees put into place in order to support gay rights. There have been many different techniques used; from the humorous video 'Gay Men Will Marry your Girlfriends,' to horrifying ads such as the suicide prevention campaign by the Trevor Project. Pope Francis' gay rights stance may be the beginning of extending human rights and allowing all people to love and live freely.
