From Ripped Recliners to Full-Figured Furniture
Laura McQuarrie — November 13, 2013 — Art & Design
These human-furniture hybrid designs are designed for the human body and look like the human body, or parts of it. Since the human body is so complex and made up of so many different systems, there is endless inspiration to pull from when making a piece of furniture inspired by the human form.
These designs range from designs that are very obviously inspired by spines, tongues or legs, to less-obvious iterations of the human body like furniture pieces that take their shape from DNA.
Because furniture design is made to comfortably hold the human body, it's interesting to see shapes that take this idea literally and replace the traditionally abstracted "legs" of a chair with forms that are much more literal and leg-like, complete with calves and feet.
