Hollow Apartment Buildings

Rex Architecture's Yongsan Towers Are Pitted

REX Architecture PC's 'Yongsan Tower' embraces an unusual perforated approach to design. Known to the company as 'Project R6,' the translucent building is set to include hollow sections throughout. These barren spaces are meant to facilitate ventilation, sunlight and breathtaking views of the Seoul cityscape.

Yongsan Tower's futuristic feel is toned down by its communal spaces. Courtyards and rooftop platforms are to be used by all of the tenants. Occupancy will be filled on a short-term basis however, a come and go feature that REX Architecture PC has remained committed to.

The 430 square foot units benefit from Yongsan Tower's pulled apart formation. Though these types of spaces are small and typically constricting, the pitted features offer sweeping and unrestrained looks at the Asian region.
