Charitable Virtual Gardens

Cancer Research UK Celebrates Its Supporters with a VR Flower Garden

At the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, Cancer Research UK is launching a virtual garden experience in order to honor more than 100,000 people who have left a legacy gift in their will to the charity.

There are hundreds of thousands of flowers in 'The Life Garden,' each one representing someone who has made a donation to the charity. To experience it, people are invited to put on an Oculus Rift headset and see the garden come to life before their eyes.

Considering that it would be a considerable amount of work to maintain a real garden of this scale year-round, virtual reality provides a solution that is cost-effective, as well as one that can be easily expanded upon as Cancer Research UK's list of supporters grows larger over time.
