3D-Printed Theater Sets

3D Printing is Being Used for a Theater Set Design at the Opera Theater

For Daniel Auber‘s 'Fra Diavolo,' which is set to be shown at the Opera Theater in Rome, Italy, later this fall, the first 3D-printed theater set design is being created in collaboration with WASP.

The 3D-printed set design is set to take the form of "two deformed historic buildings," which includes the creation of large-scale facades, windows and terraces that remind of the warped, surrealist imagery created by artist Salvador Dali.

Although additive manufacturing technology is now commonly used for the creation of small trinkets and accessories, it is only sometimes used for the creation of large-scale interior design elements and architectural projects. This collaborative project speaks to the way 3D printing has the potential to allow daring designs to be created for the arts, where traditional manufacturing processes would only cause greater complications.
