Anti-Fur Retailer Commitments

Macy’s Commited to Stop Selling Fur by the End of 2020

In response to the growing animal cruelty concerns, retail giant Macy's committed to stop selling fur by the end of 2020 thanks to its new partnership with the Humane Society of the United States. The commitment is part of the brand's new Fur Free Alliance guidelines that prohibits the same of most animals furs with the exception of "fur that is a by-product of domestic farming to feed our society."

"Macy’s private brands are already fur free so expanding this practice across all Macy’s, Inc. is the natural next step," Jeff Gennette, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc, said. The commitment will affect all of Macy's subsidiaries including Bloomingdale and its discount stores as well as its vendors and its suppliers. Macy's will continue to sell faux fur products but will close its 'Fur Vault' -- an aspect of its business that helps consumers refurbish and reinvent their favorite furs.
