Miami-based architecture firm KZ Architecture designed 'Ballantrae Court,' a sprawling estate located within a golf community in South Florida.
The architects explain that their biggest challenge was conceiving of such a large program given the limitations of the site. They solved this dilemma by dividing the home into a series of interconnected volumes that not only communicate between themselves, but also have a relationship with the surrounding landscape, creating "intimate connections between the golf course and the living spaces."
The home manages to service the client's wish for a modern aesthetic whilst adhering to the community's demands, such as the requirement that there be sloped roofs. The main volume features a gabled roof at the required slope, as well as four shed roof legs at the negotiated lesser slope.
