Berlin-based architect Javier Sanjurjo has officially unveiled the Hórreo House, a family home in the Galician town of Vilalba that he designed in collaboration with Spanish studio Ameneiros Rey. The house, which boasts a striking yet simplistic aesthetic, was built for Sanjurjo's parents, making it an incredibly personal design from the renowned architect.
Built on a plot of land far from the road that overlooks the Glacian hillsides, Sanjurojo opted to work with the contours of the landscape by raising the entire structure in the air with elegant concrete pilotis. As a result, the L-shaped home sticks out of the rolling hills, offering its owners a perfect combination of stunning views and complete privacy. Sanjurjo describes the building as being an "exercise in sufficiency over excess," as the design focuses, quite modestly, on bringing "the outside in."
