Red House is the name of an eye-catching and extremely playful residence, located in rural Dorset in southwest England. The structure was designed for a couple and their young daughter. It was built by David Kohn Architects.
Red House captures the attention of aesthetically minded people with its "exaggerated features" which include "oversized eaves, patterned brickwork, and vibrant green details." While the juxtaposition of green and red draws the eye in, the textures and architectural forms definitely enchant it.
David Kohn Architects looked to "British vernacular housing traditions" when designing Red House but the studio wanted to diverge from them too, "in a radical way." The residence, thus, has an eccentric presence that may be "shocking to a contemporary audience."
