This Communal Building Features a Series of Pitched Roofs

The Paris-based studio 'Marchi Architectes' designed a unique community center that features a series of pitched roofs. In many European towns and villages, it can be difficult to construct modern structures that complement the existing buildings. This contemporary community center uses modern materials to mimic traditional design.

'Elderly Hall' is an extension of small museum located in the French village of Biévres. To ensure that the new building did not clash with the original structure, the architects tried to mimic the historical style found throughout the village. The extension features a series of pitched roofs and large windows that flood the space with natural light. The white rendered exterior matches the surrounding buildings, which gives the modern structure a timeless quality.

By combining new materials with traditional architecture, the designers were able to create a building that seamless blends old and new.
