Open House by Matthew Mozzotta, an artist based in New York, is a clever title for an impressive art project. It involves the dissection of an abandoned home, a statement that might confuse a few at first. The house in question has literally been cut and manipulated so that it could open up to become an open air theatre. When not in use for performances, it closes back up almost like a life-size dollhouse.
Created in collaboration with The Coleman Center For The Arts as well as the people of York, Alabama, Open House by Matthew Mozzotta helps to provide much needed public space to the community. It requires only half an hour and four people to open up. Once completely unfolded, it can accommodate about one hundred people during the performance.
