Embracing offbeat marketing, Nando's restaurant recently threw a 'Nando’s Like My Nan Does' party for nearly 100 of DC’s biggest Nando’s supporters and their grandmas. Dressed in their best granny chic looks -- complete with gray wigs and pearls -- guests enjoyed flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken plus tea sandwiches and other treats consumers' grandmothers would love.
The theme for this event came courtesy of Calder Stembel, a Nando’s superfan from Washington, DC. He was chosen as a winner for the online 'Keys to the Coop' contest asking Nando’s fans: "What would you do if you could take over Nando’s for a day?" For Calder, this meant throwing a tea party fit for your Grandma with the clever name Nando’s Like My Nan Does.
The memorable party earned lots of media love and was rounded out with an old-school live performance by DC’s beloved house band, Granny & The Boys, featuring 86-year-old Alice Granny Donahue on keyboards.
