Belgian furniture design company Stal Collectief built its 'Hofer Pavilion' studio in order to have a studio that could be used year-round, regardless of the conditions in the surrounding environment. But rather than simply building a studio with good insulation and air conditioning, the company built Hofer Pavilion with moving walls, allowing for work in the open air during the warm months and providing shelter in the winter.
Hofer Pavilion's walls and roof are made from charred timber and built with a gabled shape to accentuate its rural Belgian setting. The studio is nearly indistinguishable from any other barn -- that is, until its entire facade is wheeled away. Three of the walls and the roof are set on wheels and placed on a track, which means that they can be retracted easily when the weather is just right.
