These Don Julio Cinco de Mayo cocktails fuse the brand's spirits with a selection of artisan ingredients. The seasonal cocktails draw inspiration from the Mexican holiday which is celebrated worldwide -- highlighting culture, authentic cuisine, live arts and more.
Consisting of three signature cocktails -- the Don Julio Paloma, the Don Julio Jalisco Express and the Don Julio White Oak Resting point -- this recipe collection was unveiled at an exclusive event inside Toronto's El Rey bar. The bar is located in the city's vibrant Kensington Market neighborhood and primarily specializes in artisan mezcal beverages.
Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador Simon Hooper and El Rey's resident Bar Manager Owen Walker hosted the event while guiding guests through an immersive tasting experience. While the Don Julio Paloma combines Don Julio Blanco with a blend of grapefruit juice and sherbet, lime juice, soda, pink peppercorn and chili salt, the Don Julio Jalisco Express spotlights the same spirit alongside Trinidad pepper, lime, black pepper cordial, soda and fresh cucumber juice.
Lastly, the Don Julio White Oak Resting Point pairs Don Julio Reposado with gusano and pineapple gomme, lemon juice, tepache whole foods, chocolate bitters and ground guaillo. The final cocktail not only features El Rey tepache but sources its guaillo from a local Mexican market for a flavor profile that is authentic to Toronto.
