French interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon works on the interiors of the Cowley Manor Experimental, which is a boutique hotel. The space is defined by chequerboard accents and hidden keyholes, honoring the strong inspiration of Alice in Wonderland. This stems from the historical fact that the hotel is what inspired author Lewis Carroll to writer Alive in Wonderland.
The designer explains to Dezeen, "Alice is subtly spread all over the place. Small doors are hidden in the rooms for the White Rabbit, there are hidden keyholes, rabbit ears, hearts and spades on the checkerboard carpet. We have used the checkerboard in many ways: hand-painted, tiled, on fabrics and wallpaper." The design can be seen detailed with accents of rattan that is contrasted with strong color and glossy finishes throughout the different rooms. The larger bedrooms have baldachin beds and interiors of blurred maple and verdigris.
