MAC Interactive Architects designed the 'Stirling House,' a contemporary cottage home located in Sydney, Australia.
The kitchen is the central point in the relaxed layout of the home. The clients were adamant about needing a house that was laid-back and informal; somewhere their collection of art work, furniture and odd, but treasured, knick-knacks would feel at home, too. The architects focused on designing a house that lacked pretension, and ended up with this quirky form.
The home is divided into a passive entertainment section and active entertaining section. The two are connected by a joinery, in which the staircase, kitchen and laundry are located. The "softer" side of the home is accessed through a timber-clad floor path, leading to a carpeted play space, instead of the more traditional attic.
