People been bombarded with impressive 3D renderings of vertical farms for years, but now it's finally time to see the real thing -- feast your eyes on the Bosco Verticale, or Vertical Forest.
A duo of farming towers designed by eco-architect Stephano Boeri is already under construction in Milan -- they're the first of a kind and, according to the Financial Times, "The most exciting new tower in the world." Each Bosco Verticale sports a staggered, cantilevered design, providing the large, growing trees a minimum of two storeys to expand. By conferring shade during Italy's intense summers, an acoustic softener for urban noise and clean air to the surrounding community, the vertical forest fulfills innumerable functions. I can't wait to have one of these built nearby my neighborhood!
