'Crop One,' a Boston-based vertical farming company, partnered up with 'Emirates Flight Catering' to create the 'Eco 1,' the largest vertical farming plant in the world. The Eco 1 is located in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and is a sprawling 330,000 square feet inside. The plant is designed to grow leafy greens such as lettuce, spinach, arugula, and mixed greens, which are commonly used in everything from salad dishes to more complex meals.
According to Crop One the Eco 1 will produce upwards of two million pounds of food per year through its highly efficient growth process. Growing greens in the Eco 1 vertical farming building takes approximately 95% less water and growth-related resources than traditional methods, meaning this building will have a significantly positive effect on the carbon footprint of the food industry in the region.
