Aidia Studio designed a latticed roof for the Tren Maya railway line in Tulum, Mexico. The Mexican and English architecture office was constructed to perforated roof from structural steel and glass-reinforced concrete panels. This ensures the platforms and concourse are enclosed, protecting travelers from the elements.
The station was designed to respond to Tulum's tropical climate that shifts between high temperatures, humidity, and the rainy season. The latticed roof will illuminate the covered area while allowing a fresh breeze to flow through the station. Aside from acting as a convenient shelter, the structure's second level features shops and restaurants over the railway lines and platforms. Travelers can, therefore, relax and enjoy delicious treats before catching their train.
