Adaptable Community Buildings

Paris' Carreau du Temple's New Design is Modern and Flexible

In order to breathe new life into the Carreau du Temple in Paris, its new purpose was put to a vote and as determined by the community, the new building would serve as a hub for mixed-use sports and cultural activities.

Specializing in adaptive reuse of historic buildings, Studio Milou was put to the task of transforming this building into a structure that would suit modern needs. This involved restoring the iron structures back to its original forms and opening up the space by replacing brick infills with glazing, so that the space would also be filled with an abundance of natural light. Since the space is required to serve multiple purposes, the interior features mobile partitions and retractable stands, so that it is well suited for everything from performances to community events and trade shows.
