Shoprite, the largest supermarket retailer in all of Africa, offers a rewards program called Xtra Savings, which allows its customers to save on their purchases by receiving instant discounts.
Shoprite Chief of Strategy and Innovation Neil Schreuder spoke to the merits of the program, explaining "The success of Xtra Savings is its simplicity and transparency. No points and no levels, it’s all about straight-forward instant savings on things you actually need." When shoppers use their Xtra Savings card, they'll gain access to discounts up to 40 percent off, which can be applied to everyday essentials. Shoprite also offers additional rewards for combo purchases through the program.
To increase participation, the retailer allows users to sign up for their cards online, in-stores, and even through WhatsApp.
