Located in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan is 'Beyond the Hill,' an unusual home outfitted with a gallery that's open to the public.
Designed by Kazuhiko Kishimoto / acaa, the majority of the residence has been conceived to "float" above ground, with the gallery being the only room that's rooted to the terrain. The gallery is surrounded by a wooden deck, which all the residents of the town are also free to enjoy. In one area, a hole has been built into the surface of the deck, acting as a bench or, potentially, an outdoor exhibition space. Overall, the deck serves as a connecting feature, seamlessly integrating the indoor and outdoor spaces of the home.
Other than the deck, there are spaces within the home that are perfect for viewing the surrounding landscape; for instance, an alcove located right off the kitchen.
