Japan’s Yoshino Spirits Co. is introducing what it calls the world's first ocean-infused whisky, as Umiki is made with water from the Pacific Ocean. The unconventional whisky spirit is blended with Japanese ocean-side malt whiskies and grain whiskies and finished off in Japanese pine tree barrels. The name of the new product, Umiki, captures the essence of its unique qualities, as it references the Japanese words for ocean and tree. As the ocean and the pine tree are revered as powerful symbols of life, Umiki unites the natural elements to create an unconventional whisky spirit.
