Amy Duong — September 25, 2023 — Art & Design
Canadian design studio KPMB Architects designs the Leaf building which can be found in Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg. The complex is made up of a central greenhouse building surrounded by public gardens and greenery. It is defined by its spiraling cable-net roof that is inspired by a visual of a Fibonacci sequence. The Leaf if made up of four plant biomes, a classroom, a restaurant, and cafe for the public.
Mitchell Hall, KPMB partner explains that "For The Leaf, we wanted to create a transcendent experience that centers nature and sustainability. The architecture goes beyond a mere place to house and showcase these climate biomes. The building itself is designed as an ode to the beauty of nature so visitors can feel the respect for the earth and environment from the very first look."
