Chamar Studio and æquō Introduce The Flap Chair
Kanesa D — January 2, 2025 — Art & Design
Chamar Studio and æquō have unveiled a collaboration at Design Miami, presenting a striking collection that champions sustainability and community empowerment. Central to this showcase is the Flap Chair, crafted by Chamar Studio's founder, Rajbhar, in partnership with the Dalit community in Dharavi. The chair reimagines reclaimed rubber as a resilient leather alternative, using an innovative process that layers compressed mesh and pigments between rubber sheets. The result is a bold vermillion-toned piece measuring 135 cm in length, 160 cm in width, and 78 cm in height.
The studio also introduced a range of furniture made from its signature recycled rubber material, expanding on this ethos. Highlights include the cobalt blue Pocket Chair, the teal green Baldric Chair, and the intricately designed Woven Light lampshade.
Interested consumers can preview the pieces through the gallery's website.
