Texans Canteen is a nonprofit twist on Austin's booming food truck scene. The Texans Canteen food truck is a venture of Austin Can Academy, a nonprofit charter high school that pursues social entrepreneurship opportunities that both raise money for the students and awareness on the school, which currently has over 350 students.
Selling breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Austin, the blue and yellow food truck serves breakfast tacos, sandwiches, burgers, tacos and more, all made with locally soured ingredients and is operated by two full-time employees.
Pledging the net proceeds of such ventures back toward the students, the Austin Can Academy has additionally operated Dallas-based Cars for Kids for 13 years.
