Going head-to-head with Meerkat is Stre.am, another livestreaming app launched at SXSW 2015.
Stre.am is an app for video broadcasting, aimed at making it easy to share and chat with friends at once. When a friend starts streaming, users can subscribe and get notifications for when a live video broadcast is starting. The app is almost like a cross between Vine, Skype and Snapchat, since you're able to tap into streams by other users and message one another, although content will only remain published on your Stre.am Reel for a limited 24 hour time period.
Despite there being a lot of talk about the Meertkat app at SXSW, Stre.am has been named a finalist in SXSW's innovation awards.
