The Aureà Cuadrado Garden Skate Park in Barcelona is a dynamic public space that incorporates vegetation of intuitive design. A project of the Barcelona City Council, the program aimed to provide a skate park that also served as a public square and gathering place. As such, many of the skateable elements double as benches, planes, platforms and steps. The entire installation was conceived to avoid the individual structures appearing separate.
Designed by SCOB, the skate park includes various beds of plants and vegetation that connect and flow with the sporty elements of the park. Located under several automobile bridges, the inclusion of the greenery serves the purpose of changing the perception that industrial, hard elements of urban spaces can't be beautiful.
