Five years ago, Switzerland-based architecture and design firm Santiago Calatrava proposed a concept plan for a crossing bridge called the Doha's Sharq Crossing. Now, the Qatar government has recently announced the approval for the construction of the crossing and will be starting to build the structure in 2015 with completion by 2021. Not only will the design aim to connect links between the Katara Cultural Village, the Hamad International Airport and the West Bay financial district but the plan will also bridge together an elevated pathway that will lead to a public park by the harbor and other recreational areas.
