When architects talk about creating a strong connection between interior and exterior environments, they're often suggesting that the use of broad floor-to-ceiling fenestration is the way to do it well. In a much more extreme manner, the Shadowboxx House features a bespoke hinged roof that literally exposes its inside to the outside world.
Designed by Olson Kundig Architects, the lovely little bathhouse abuts a beautiful wood-clad cottage. This small separate dwelling has expansive glass doors that open the entire front of the one-room space into the trees and the field of the rural site. But perhaps you get a nice cloudless night and a sky full of brilliant stars; you'll be able to activate the Shadowboxx House roof so that it separates and slopes upwards to provide an unobstructed view above.
