Ben & Jerry's Announce New Flavor: Schweddy Balls Ice Cream

This past Wednesday ice cream tycoon Ben & Jerry's formally announced their plans to launch the questionable Schweddy Balls ice cream flavor throughout the United States. The new flavor is vanilla ice cream adorned with fudge-covered rum and malt balls. Sounds tasty enough, but can their knack for home run flavors and magically creamy ice cream overcome the product's less-than-appetizing name?

The new flavor's title is a playful nod to the classic SNL skit, which featured the incomparable Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, a man known for his delicious popcorn balls, rum balls, gum balls etc. This seemingly simple scenario led to a legendary barrage of double entendres and witty wordplay. Since its original air date ten years ago, the Schweddy Balls skit has become essential viewing, but does its impressive impact on pop culture warrant an ice cream flavor? Ben & Jerry's spokesman Sean Greenwood defended the title, calling it "irreverent." Greenwood is confident that the average Ben & Jerry's junkie will "get the humor." So, open wide and get ready to swallow a heaping helping of Schweddy Balls ice cream. Admit it, you're at least a little curious.
